Cape Care Coalition holds Community Forums
Health care is taking center stage in the national political arena. On Cape Cod, a group of citizens, medical professionals, and business and civic leaders have been working to create an alternative to the morass of private insurance, inadequate insurance, or no insurance which defines health care, or lack of care, today. The Cape Care Coalition, a citizen initiative to establish a single payer, community owned health care plan for Barnstable County, successfully passed resolutions in the majority of Cape towns in 2006 calling for the creation of this alternative, known as Cape Care.To continue involving the community in the creation of Cape Care, the coalition is holding Community Forums this fall, across the Cape and open to everyone. The purposes of the forums are threefold:
- To presentthe latest developments of Cape Care, the proposed comprehensive health care plan for Cape Cod. The current Draft Model of the Plan, available on the Cape Care Coalition web site, www.capecare.info, will be the focus of an outline presentation;
- to help community members understand how a community-directed single payer health system can improve our health, improve our access to care, and control costs, by making appropriate care available to all Cape residents;and
- to ask citizens to contribute their knowledge, experience and ideas to this developing effort to help make Cape Care a reality, for the health of our community and as a model for accessible, comprehensive, universal and high quality health care.
