Cape Care: The Health Care Public Plan that Works for Everyone
Health care reform is a leading issue in the national debate, with many advocating for a public plan in addition to the current private offerings. On Cape Cod a group of concerned citizens and health care professionals have been working since 2003 on a public health care plan for Cape Cod, known as Cape Care.
Representative Matt Patrick of the Third District of Barnstable County will speak. at the June 13 Quarterly meeting of the Cape Care Coalition, the citizen organization working to create Cape Care. The meeting will be held from 9:30 am to 11:30 am in the Upper Commons, Grossman Building, of Cape Cod Community College in Barnstable. The meeting is free and open to the public.
To bring about regional health care reform, the Coalition has proposed a bill which would enable the creation of Cape Care. The Cape Care Community Health Trust bill was introduced in the Massachusetts Legislature in January of this year by Representative Patrick and Senator Robert O'Leary. At the Quarterly meeting, Rep. Patrick will explain the legislative process and how supporters can most effectively encourage the bill's passage.
